2011 ABA Midyear Meeting
By:  C.E. Rhodes, Baker Hughes, Inc.

The American Bar Association 2011 Midyear Meeting will take place in Atlanta, Georgia from February 9-15, 2011. The Midyear Meeting brings together more than 3,000 lawyers and their families from across the country. The Midyear Meeting provides the forum for many divisions, sections, and committees to conduct business meetings as well as offering CLE programs to its members. In addition, the ABA House of Delegates, the policy-making body of the association, meets to review recommendations submitted by various divisions, sections, committees, and entities of the ABA. Action taken by the House of Delegates on specific issues becomes official ABA policy.

During the Midyear Meeting, the ABA Young Lawyers Division (“ABA YLD”) meets from February 10-12, 2011, with the ABA YLD Assembly taking place on Saturday, February 12. The Assembly consists of the ABA YLD Council and delegates from young lawyer state bar organizations, national affiliates, and military branches. The Assembly is the principal policy-making body of the ABA YLD. During Assembly, delegates often discuss, debate, vote, and adopt resolutions that are important to young lawyers. All debates are conducted in accordance with the Rules of Parliamentary Procedure. In addition, this year during Assembly, David M. Evans of San Antonio, the 2010 Texas Outstanding Young Lawyer, will receive the 2010 National Outstanding Young Lawyer Award. Please come and show your support.

If you would like to become a delegate this year, please visit the ABA YLD website http://www.abanet.org/yld/assembly/about.shtml for more information, and contact the TYLA office or your ABA District Representative - Chip Brooker, for north and west Texas and C.E.
