2011 TYLA Road Show with Legal Aid of Northwest Texas
By:  Cameron Cox

TYLA’s Local Affiliates Committee is set to kick-off its first Road Show of the current board year with Legal Aid of Northwest Texas. This first Road Show is the result of TYLA President Natalie Cobb Koehler’s initiative to do at least one Road Show this year with a legal aid services organization.

Every Road Show TYLA conducts is unique and narrowly tailored to the individuals, groups, organizations, or associations that take part in that Road Show.  This Road Show will be no different. Legal Aid of Northwest Texas informed us that they would like for specific conflict of interest issues to be addressed within their organization. They are often presented with an interesting dilemma; in that, they represented an individual in the past in a civil or criminal matter, and are now being asked to represent someone in opposition to that person in an unrelated matter down the road.

So, back by popular demand, the attorneys at Legal Aid of Northwest Texas will be contestants on TYLA’s own Ethics Jeopardy. The questions will be drawn on the legal issues of the day affecting Legal Aid of Northwest Texas. Our own version of Alex Trebek will lead the contestants/lawyers through a pre-set list of answers, and the contestants will be asking the appropriate question to win. But, unlike a criminal indictment, these contestants will have a chance for Double-Jeopardy.  The Jeopardy will also be simulcast via a video conference to all available branches of Legal Aid of Northwest Texas throughout Texas.

The Road Show is currently set for sometime in November at the LANT branch in Fort Worth. The Road Show and CLE should last about an hour with a meet and greet to follow. For more information or details, please email me at ccox@dentonlawyer.com. A special thank you to Legal Aid of Northwest Texas attorneys Jane Fritz, Tom Stutz, and Doug Stevick for helping us put this event together. And, a thank you to all those attorneys in Texas who work and volunteer to provide free legal aid services to those in need throughout our wonderful state!
