ABA YLD Update

July 2012 ABA/YLD Update
By:  Jobe Rodgers

As we near the end of summer (already?!), I wanted to remind you all of the greatest opportunity for CLE and networking anywhere in the world.  Where, you ask?  The ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago, of course.  This year, the ABA will host the annual meeting in its home city alongside Lollapalooza. (I am sure this is not a coincidence).  From August 2-5, you can find CLE covering most any topic of interest.  There are also endless networking opportunities, such as the First Timers’ Reception, Section Connect, Networking Breakfast, and the ABA/YLD Fellows Gala.

The YLD Assembly will also be convening for two days at Annual Meeting.  I highly encourage you to seek one of the available spots on the Texas Delegate to the Assembly.  This is a great opportunity to debate and vote upon some of the biggest issues facing young lawyers today.

The Annual Meeting Assembly will also close out on a great year from ABA/YLD chair Michael Bergmann.  It has been an honor to work with Michael over the past year and watch him lead the YLD to accomplish great things.  His Young Lawyers Serving Veterans program has changed the lives of scores of veterans seeking the benefits from the Veterans Administration. But as we say good bye to Michael, we will also welcome in our own Chris Rogers of Dallas.

Chris is an associate at Haynes & Boone in Dallas who specializes in controversies involving actual or threatened government enforcement.  He has been an incomparable representative of the greatest state in the Union to the ABA/YLD and to TYLA for over 5 years. We are certainly looking forward to a year under his leadership in the ABA/YLD.

Please make it a point to join us in Chicago, it is sure to be a weekend (or more) that you won’t soon forget.
