Introducing the New Vice Chair of the Law Student Division for the State Bar of Texas

Latoya Merida is the new vice chair of the Law Student Division for the State Bar of Texas. She is an Army brat primarily raised in Austin, Texas, but she traveled all across the nation before beginning her undergraduate career at Texas Tech University. She received her Bachelor of Arts in sociology and minor in legal sudies and received the Dean’s highest academic recognition award. Her passion for youth led her to spend much of her undergraduate career under the direction offered by the Child Development Research Center in Lubbock.

Ms. Merida’s passion for children continued through her countless community service hours at organizations such as Give Kids the World, Special Olympics, March of Dimes, and Children’s Home of Lubbock. After a successful term at National Youth Leadership Forum on Law in Washington, D.C., Ms. Merida knew that she wanted to pursue a juris doctorate degree. Her passion for children and her goals have led her to pursue a career as a legal advocate for children.

Ms. Merida is currently a 2L at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, where she has excelled in academia and leadership. As a 1L, she served as Student Ambassador, as well as, charter member of Women of Law at Thurgood Marshall School of Law. Additionally, Ms. Merida was active with the Board of Advocates, where she participated in various capacities at each competition. She currently serves as a summer intern with the Harris County Attorney’s Office Juvenile Practice Group.
