ABA YLD Update

The American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division recently held its Midyear Meeting in Chicago. Delegates from across the country gathered to discuss issues affecting young lawyers and celebrate the achievements of ABA YLD members and affiliated young-lawyer organizations. The ABA YLD recognized Brittany Byrd of Dallas as a Finalist for the National Outstanding Young Lawyer Award.

ABA YLD Council members participated in the second annual “CareerLine LIVE!” event, where participants asked questions about résumés, job applications, networking and more via phone and social media.

The ABA YLD also hosted several CLE programs tailored to young lawyers, including:

• Ethically Departing Your Law Firm – What Young Lawyers Need to Know
• Anatomy of ADR: The Bargaining Phase
• DOMA Overruled: Implications for Health Care Plans and Other Employee Benefits
• Trial Practice Tips & Preserving Appeals
• From Law School to Law Practice: The Solo Practitioner; and
• Protecting the Rights of Students and Student Organizations in Public Schools.

The ABA Young Lawyers Division is the largest young-lawyer organization in the world with more than 150,000 members and 300 affiliated. Individual membership is open to ABA members under 36 years old or admitted to practice for five years or fewer.
