Generation Generosity: Young Lawyers Doing Good
By:  Jacquelyn Wilson
This bar year, Texas Young Lawyers Association launched Generation Generosity, a Texas-wide project which was the brainchild of the Dallas Young Lawyers Association. Generation Generosity originated from the idea that lawyers need a makeover in the eyes of society, which typically views lawyers negatively. In reality, lawyers are the foundation for many benevolent organizations (profit and non-profit) and often serve as the voice for the voiceless.  As part of the state-wide launch, TYLA, in conjunction with our local affiliates, will focus on a pro bono project each month and spotlight projects where lawyers are helping to improve their local communities.

This past month, the Austin Young Lawyers Association participated in Generation Generosity by hosting Reindeer Games, a holiday celebration for foster and economically disadvantaged children. In this annual event, AYLA brings together various legal organizations to offer children the opportunity to make ornaments, stockings, take part in face painting, and other holiday activities. Members from AYLA, Travis County Women Lawyers Association, Austin Black Lawyers Association, and the Austin Asian American Bar Association all participated by hosting a particular activity making this a very special event. TYLA volunteers operated the ornament decorating station, helping each child create a personalized keepsake ornament. The afternoon concluded with a visit from Santa Claus, who greeted the children, while event volunteers passed out a toy to each child.
