Happy New Year! The beginning of a New Year inevitably brings the mantra “New Year, New Me” to mind. We start the year with hopeful ambitions of self-improvement, professional goals to increase productivity, and plans to check a few items off the bucket list in the next 12 months. We plan all of this as we promise to sleep eight hours a night, drink more water, save more, volunteer more, and exercise like we have been promising to do since the last time our pants felt a little snug. I hope this issue of TYLA eNews will give you a few tips to help you all meet your 2017 resolutions.

This issue of eNews features stories for current opportunities to improve both your practice and the community. Cade Lovelace, a partner in Lovelace Killen, PLLC, discusses the importance of community service. TYLA has begun the project “I was the First. You Can Be a Lawyer Too!” to highlight accomplishments of first-generation lawyers in order to make the profession more accessible to those considering a career in law. Next, Tarrant County Young Lawyers Association showcases a local project, providing clothes to the indigent. Dallas Association of Young Lawyers provides tips on how to defend against a Rule 202 Petition. Tennessee Walker, an attorney with Patterson Law Group, discusses the legal implications of self-driving cars. We also have our regular ABA: Young Lawyer Division update and an article on the Billable Hours of a Law Student by Henry Keculah, Jr.

Enjoy this edition of TYLA’s eNews and good luck on those New Year’s resolutions!
