The Austin Bar Association / Austin Young Lawyers Association Leadership Academy Class of 2018 Invites You to View Law: A Tradition of Service

Each year, a small group of young Austin lawyers is admitted to the Leadership Academy and tasked with a law-related community service project. The 2018 class elected to create a short documentary titled Law: A Tradition of Service. This film documents and preserves landmark legal and societal contributions of various Central Texas lawyers with the goal of inspiring young people to participate in the practice of law and increase their civic engagement. The film shows one-on-one interviews with inspiring attorneys, judges, and community leaders such as:

• The Honorable Robert Pitman,
• Chief Justice Wallace Jefferson,
• Dr. Sarah Weddington
• The Honorable Lora Livingston,
• Senator Kirk Watson,
• Berry Crowley,
• Frank King, and
• Dirk Jordan.

We look forward to the showing of our video on August 29 at the 125th anniversary celebration of the Austin Bar Association.  This film will also be preserved by the History & Traditions Committee of the Austin Bar Association to further preserve our community’s contributions to the legal world in a way that only an oral history and storytelling can capture. Copies of the film may also be requested for screenings to debate teams, mock trial teams, local bar events, and the like.
