Election season is upon us, my friends. Primaries have just been concluded in the great State of Texas, runoffs will be commencing in May, all culminating in the general elections to be held on “Super Tuesday,” November 4. While this is not a political commentary, it is a commentary on getting out and voting. In the words of Franklin D. Roosevelt, “Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting.” Don’t deprive yourself of your rights.

TYLA is no different. Election season has officially begun and the two President-Elect Candidates chosen by the TYLA nominating committee are busy making their way across the State to give you a reason to vote for them. In this issue we’ve included a brief Q&A to give you some insight into their candidacies and their lives in general. Beginning April 1, 2014, you will have the opportunity to cast your ballot for these two candidates as well as elect directors from your districts. Don’t deprive yourself of your right to vote in these elections either. Be on the lookout for your ballots.

All of that being said, the rest of our eNews is devoted to you and providing you information about TYLA Feature Projects (“Attorney General Guide”); information on what some of our local affiliates have been up to (“FW-TCYLA’s Bench Book”); practice tips (“An Introduction to Patenting in the United States”); an article of general legal interest (“Self-Inflicted Veil Piercing”); and our monthly “Health Tips for Young Lawyers.” There are also updates from the Texas Access to Justice Commission—consider the voluntary contribution on your bar dues statement—as well as important dates to remember.
