ABA YLD Update

The ABA’s Young Lawyer Division is gearing up for the ABA’s 2014 Annual Meeting in Boston, which will take place August 7–10. Texas is sending 12 delegates to this year’s ABA-YLD Assembly, which will take place on August 9. The Assembly is the principal policy-making body of the YLD. During the meeting, young lawyers from across the country will discuss and debate issues affecting young lawyers and will vote on certain resolutions addressing those issues. This is a great way for young lawyers to have their voices heard and help shape the profession. A delegate does not have to be a member of the YLD Council or TYLA Board of Directors.

Nominations are also underway for the 2014 Awards of Achievement. This program is an opportunity for state and local young-lawyer organizations affiliated with the Young Lawyers Division to submit their best projects for evaluation and recognition by a jury of their peers. It is designed to encourage project development by recognizing the time, effort, and skills that young-lawyer organizations expend to implement public- and bar-service projects in their communities. Other awards are given for newsletters and projects focusing on minority lawyers. Information about these projects then spreads through the YLD’s affiliates, its national conferences, The Affiliate newsletter, and other YLD activities to furnish ideas for already-successful programs to affiliates across the nation.
