Editor's Column

Editor's Column

I must start my column by apologizing for the delay in the publication of the June/July edition of eNews. Considering that this is the only edition throughout the year that covers a two-month period, one would think that the editor of the edition could have it timely published. I’m sorry that I didn’t. Admittedly, the only real excuse that I have for the delay is…life.

Good, bad, or ugly, life is life. Sometimes it sucks, sometimes it is hard, but it is better than the alternative. And, as someone who has recently mourned the death of a loved one, I am thankful that I am able to get the edition done at all.

Unfortunately, I am not the only person who has had a hard summer. Compared to many, my summer has been a walk in the park. At times it has felt as though the summer has been full of bad news and tragedy on a daily basis. eNews and this column aren’t the appropriate forums to discuss these tragedies or their causes, but I would be remiss if I didn’t at least recognize their existence.

Fortunately, we as young lawyers are uniquely poised to be part of a solution to the problems that seem to plague this country. We, as a collective, have differing viewpoints and experiences that can serve as guides to a path to a solution. We, as individuals, have the intelligence and drive to make our communities a better place. I challenge you to find a way to use your experiences, intelligence, and drive to do just that. If you’re having trouble figuring out what you can do, let me know; TYLA is always looking for volunteers to help us reach our goals.

Cheers,

John Shaw, TYLA Chair-elect
