Striving to Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions?

We are nearing the end of February, and so this is a great opportunity to remind you to stay with your New Year’s resolutions. One of which should always be to be a better person and, hence, a better attorney.

This month’s issue provides a range of interesting topics for this coming year. First, TYLA Director Ryan E. Scharar discusses some tips for young lawyers on proposed regulations by the IRS that will affect family business entities. Next, TYLA Director Britney Harrison Dieng provides information on TYLA’s Divorce Guide for Children and Divorce Guide for Teens and how you can obtain a copy of these valuable resources.  As an article of interest, TYLA Director Christopher Stoy reminds us of the dangers of keyless ignitions in vehicles. 

This issue of eNews also includes information on some events worth knowing about. First, TYLA and the American College of Trial Lawyers are hosting the 42nd Annual National Trial Competition in Fort Worth, one of the most important and well-recognized events of the year. Second, the ABA Young Lawyers Division Mountain West States Regional Summit presents a great opportunity for learning the unique issues that legal professionals deal with in the western states. Finally, the Texas Access to Justice Commission gives us an update on the 85th Legislative Session.

We also have an article by the Laredo-Webb County Bar Association discussing a pre-law chapter initiative to promote the legal profession among prospective local legal professionals. On a final, good note, St. Mary’s law students share their thoughts on how pro bono work will help them in their professional careers.
