Editor's Column

Editor's Column

By:  Leif Olson

I grew up in Washington, and my family still lives there. My wife, children, and I just returned from a vacation to visit them, and stepping out of the baggage claim into the Houston air reminded me of one undeniable truth: Texas in the summer is hot.

But do you know what else is hot, he asked in a segue so poor that a bad screenwriter would have deleted it from a script for a commercial starring Paris Hilton? Being there to help. That’s why this month’s TYLA eNews presents some practical advice, professional and personal, for young lawyers, and gives other sources of help that young lawyers can seek. That’s also why this issue highlights upcoming TYLA and local-affiliate programs that help our Texas communities and those who live in them.

This issue of eNews also includes the first article in our new series on young-lawyer wellness. This month’s wellness tips are included as Tips for Young Lawyers; future issues will feature our regular Tips column, containing various hints you can employ in your professional and personal lives, and a separate installment of wellness tips geared toward keeping you (and your young-lawyer colleagues across the state) mentally and physically healthy. This series is the brainchild of a new TYLA Director and eNews editor, Lubbock’s Laura Pratt. I and the rest of the eNews and TYLA team are pleased that Laura brought this idea to us. We hope that you’ll find it as useful as we have.

Until next month, stay hydrated and think cool thoughts. Because that’s hot.

Leif Olson is a TYLA Director and principal of The Olson Firm PLLC in Houston, where he practices appellate and other complex litigation. Based on this column, he sure ain’t winning the Pulitzer anytime soon.
