Amarillo Area Young Lawyers Association Hosts Spring Projects for the Community

The Amarillo Area Young Lawyers Association attended the 2014 Bar Leaders Conference, where AAYLA learned about great projects that other young lawyer affiliates do across the state of Texas. AAYLA brought some of the projects home to Amarillo.

Easter Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza

This spring, AAYLA hosted its first Easter Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza. This was a special Easter egg hunt for the children and grandchildren of Amarillo-area lawyers, judges, and legal staff. There were 1,000 eggs to hunt, refreshments, and a visit from the Easter Bunny himself!

AAYLA also hosted a fundraiser to determine which member of our bar association would have the honor of being the Easter Bunny. People voted for their favorite lawyer to be the Easter Bunny. Each vote was $5. Each Friday a list of the top five attorneys receiving votes was e-mailed to the bar; that way the top nominee could cast votes sufficient to move someone else into the top spot. The winning nominee attended the event in full bunny costume.

We raised $700, and the funds this year were used to benefit The Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center. The Bridge is a comprehensive, child-focused program that offers a one-stop approach to child abuse investigation. The Bridge offers a comfortable, private, child-friendly setting where forensic interviews and exams can be conducted. The center also focuses on the health and future of child victims.

Bunny Hop 5K Race

AAYLA rebranded its annual Law Day 5K as the Bunny Hop 5K Race. AAYLA had 80 participants running/walking this year, and raised $700 for the local food bank. The family friendly race was a big hit, especially since the Easter Bunny made an appearance and handed out bunny ears and reusable water bottles to all of the participants.
