DAYL Continues to Let Freedom Run 10 Years After 9/11
By: Jason Jobe

The 11th Annual Freedom Run 5K and Bill Carollo One Mile Walk, organized by the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, will take place on the evening of Thursday, September 8th beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Dallas City Hall Plaza. The first Freedom Run was organized by the Dallas Associations of Young Lawyers in the weeks after 9/11. Ten years later, the Freedom Run continues to provide an annual opportunity for the citizens of DFW, and beyond, to unite in tribute to the heroes and victims of that tragic day and to honor the continued sacrifices that our police officers and first responders make on a daily basis.

Proceeds from the Freedom Run benefit Dallas police officers and first responders through the Assist the Officer Foundation, which provides financial assistance to Dallas area police officers and first responders who face loss of income due to a serious injury, life-threatening illness, or other catastrophic event. Immediate assistance is also available to an officer’s family in the event of the death of an active officer. Since 2001, the Freedom Run and the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers have raised approximately $200,000 for the Assist the Officer Foundation. This year’s event will feature activities for the entire family including music, food, and drinks, as well as a kids’ area that will showcase Dallas Police Department vehicles, motorcycles, and horses. Officers will also be providing identification kits for children.

Visit www.freedomrun.com to register for the 5K run or the Bill Carollo One Mile Walk, or enter your firm or corporation in the Freedom Run Corporate Team Challenge. Information for sponsor and volunteer opportunities are also available on the website. Please make plans to take part in this year’s event and assist DAYL in its commitment to LET FREEDOM RUN.

For more information on the Freedom Run, contact one of the DAYL Freedom Run Committee co-chairs: Jason Jobe, Bill Gardner, or Allison Grossman.
